Dr. Cristina Jesurun, PT, DPT, LMT, Certified Pilates Instructor is a graduate of the UT Austin Dance department and an original member of Austin Independent Choreographers. Following college she danced in multiple Austin companies including Spank Dance Company w/ Ellen Bartel, Wicket Cricket Dance Theatre with Carolyn Sutton-Clark, and as a guest artist with Kathy Dunn-Hamrick Dance Company. She also presented and performed her own choreography in multiple AIC showcases (including the first two Dance Carousel productions), as well as Austin's Frontera Fest. She moved to NYC and did a little dancing with Abby Bender in Schmantze Theatre and presented and performed in her own work in WaxWorks and Collaborations in Dance produced by Triskelion Arts; she even came back to Austin in 2010 to present her own work in Big Range Austin Dance Festival. While in NYC, Cristina got her comprehensive Pilates certification at Core Pilates NYC and worked as a Pilates instructor both there and at the reknown Real Pilates NYC while she went to school to get her Doctorate of Physical Therapy.
In 2017, Cristina came back to Austin and was grateful to be immediately welcomed back by her dance family. Since returning she has performed again in Austin's Frontera Fest, Austin Dance Fest, Seam, the ACC Faculty and Guest Show, and Dance Carousel. Her other interests include trail running, stand-up paddle boarding, hiking and doing yoga from time to time.
As a PT and a lifelong dancer, Cristina is able to understand the lifestyle and demands that dancers face, and the difficulty associated with pain and injury. As dancers we feel injury in our physical body but also feel it as a threat to our ability to move with passion. This practice is based on the belief that we do not have to stop dancing, ever. Cristina is not in the business of telling you to "just stop doing that" as is often the case with doctors and PTs that just don't get it. She is committed to helping you continue to dance pain free at peak performance. She aims to give you the peace of mind that comes from really understanding what is going on in your body when you have pain or injury, so you can stop wondering, worrying and wasting your time trying this, that, and the other that isn't even helping. She will create a treatment plan specifically for you, taking into consideration your dance class and rehearsal schedule, to help you keep dancing pain free and get you back to dancing full out ASAP!
